500kW Containerised Biomass Boiler and Lauber L-ENZ

(Woodchip Drying)

Project History

The owner was looking to sustain his company’s reputation for providing high quality low moisture content woodchip whilst providing the ability to undertake large orders to ever tightening deadlines.  This meant a requirement to move away from seasoning timber to process drying and that’s when Nexus Energy were commissioned to make this aspiration a realisation.

Solution

Nexus Energy Ltd designed and specified an effective woodchip drying installation using a Heizomat RHK-AK 500 (500kW) fully modulating biomass boiler and purpose built Lauber L-ENZ drying system.

To ensure maximum flexibility and use of space the biomass boiler was containerised into a fully insulated and modified shipping container with the fuel store located within an existing barn.  The boiler was then connected directly into the self containerised L-ENZ unit with the warm air passed through a rigid duct and double insulated spiraflex hosing into 4 purpose built hook lift drying containers (with drying floors).

The installation has provided the capacity for 120m3 of wet woodchip to be dried down to 25% moisture content within 48hrs, ensuring high volumes of consistently dry chip without the months of seasoning.
